So this picture is your official preview of “8 Under 28” which opens Thursday night (7 – 10 PM).
Here I was, placing work in my own curation, and I realize I had just given a negative review (blog entry below) for overhanging and bunching up the work, playing the scale over content game and expecting the energy of disparate work to liven up the visual flow of the show instead of cancel it out – and here I am fighting all of this, along with numerous tasks that demand attention during a day at the gallery.
So the show is up and other than scrubbing fingerprints and pencil marks off of a few walls, we are set for the opening night festivities (please join us) and of course, the criticism and outrage that hopefully follow (or sales and accolades, take your pick, aim well). At some point you look around and know you have done all that can be done. I didn’t want a safe, boring show so I hope the chances I took curatorially underscore the chances each artist took within their own process. Is there a plural for “Process”? Anyway, the show runs thru March 1 and it basically demonstrates the art of 8 sophisticated young Angeleno artists. Please visit.
